I went out on Sunday morning with about 24 birders on the annual MRVAC Dakota County Prairie Birds field trip and with perfect summer conditions found 68 species before we burned out. We started at Schaar's Bluff and then visited the Archery Range, 140th Street marsh, Emery Avenue, and with just a few birders left stopped at Lone Tree and the 190th Street natural area. We found about 68 species including: Lark Sparrows - east of the Archery Range on Pine Bend Trail Orchard Orioles - about 6 at various places Bell's Vireo - at 140th Loggerhead Shrike - with two young ready to fledge on Emery Red-shouldered Hawk - at Schaar's Bluff Wood Thrush - singing at the Archery Range
