This may be of some interest to birders from any state: today's Google Doodle (the often animated logo that appears when you go to www.google.com) is about Phoebe Snetsinger, who started serious birding at age 50, when she was diagnosed with melanoma, and who had seen 8,398 species of birds when she died 18 years later. At the time, she held the record for having seen more birds than any other person.
