We were out at the Sartell sand pit near Pine Cone road and saw a pair of
raptors that we are having trouble identifying. They were perched on top of
a large bare dirt hill (we could not see them as we approached) and began
calling with a rapid keekeekee when we got near. They took off and flew
low over the nearby cultivated field calling nearly continuously. They were
fairly large, brown on top, light on bottom without obvious tail banding.

The call helped us narrow the possibilities and after consulting the Cornell
University site our best guess is a Prairie Falcon. The call of the peregrine
falcon was also very close to what we heard but the color does not seem to
match the brown we saw.

Is a prairie falcon reasonably possible? Has anyone else seen one in the
area or is there another likely candidate?

Thanks so much for your time and assistance.
