We have discussed some about the problems of lead ammunition. Birds, such as
Bald Eagles, will find deer gut piles that can contain lead, ingest the lead
and it will poison them. This is why I use copper bullets when I hunt. One
of the reasons people don't use copper ammunition is the expense. You can
buy a box of lead-bullet cartridges for under $10. Copper ammunition starts
at about $40 a box of 20.

Last year the legislature failed to pass a bill that would have required
people hunting on public lands to use lead-free ammunition.

I found this while I was looking at a possible trip to central California,
where, if we go, we will want to spend some time looking for condors.

It is a lottery for free copper ammunition for hunters who live in the range
of the California Condor.
