Rob and I have just refound the Blue Grosbeak in Dakota County, off Pine
Bend Trail, along Fisher Ave --a dead end section, gravel road. Be warned
this is still officially a construction site for the new bike trail being
put through the county park, though current work seems to be further east.
The bird is frequenting the open field on the east side of the gravel road,
singing from small shrubs and tall grasses. Occasionally, it crosses over
the road to sing from the woods on the trees on the west side. While indigo
buntings also abound here, we've had close looks--larger size, head, beak
and tail; russet in the wings-- and the song is unmistakeable. Rob has the
location as 44.749904, -92.974268 or 13770 Fischer Ave, Hastings. Please
use care in searching; the bird was audible and sometimes visible without
walking into the open area created during construction, and caution will
prevent action that gets us banned from the area. Belated thanks to those
whose posts lured us out to enjoy the Mockingbird, which we did, and to
search for the BLGR
