While using a tractor to harvest seed today I flushed a Yellow Rail from a prairie restoration near the west end of Cottonwood River Scientific Natural Area, Brown County. The bird flew about 100 feet.
The timing and location seem to match my previous observations of this species during fall migration. I will add that I don't think I have ever flushed a yellow rail in southern Minnesota while on foot - odds of relocation are low.
