Hey Everybody,

While I was "home" in Angora/Cook for Turkey Day I got a chance to get out
for a bit of birding yesterday and today. I even teamed up with Julie Grahn
(of Red Phalarope fame) for some awesome birding. Since the Cook ponds are
not very Phalarope friendly this time of year, much of the birding was done
along Heino Road east of CR 25 where there is a large, mature Black Spruce
bog. Here are the highlights:

3 SPRUCE GROUSE on CR 25 between Heino and Goodell Roads where there is a
Black Spruce bog. Seen at 9:30 AM.

2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS on Heino near Samuelson Rd.

NORTHERN GOSHAWK (juv) on Heino just east of CR 25.

BOREAL CHICKADEE on Heino 0.7 miles west of Samuelson.

GRAY JAYS on Heino and on CR 25.

2 BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES--two locations on CR 25: one just south of Goodell
Road and one just south of CR 22.

NORTHERN SHRIKES and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS--a couple of each in scattered
locations.

50 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Cook. Julie has been seeing them around town for
awhile this fall. For each of the last two days the flock has been found
midday resting at the tops of some very tall Spruce trees behind the Art
Gallery. Otherwise there are several fruit trees to check around town.

No place like home,
