Hi all,

Friends of Sax-Zim Bog is compiling a "Birding History" of the Sax-Zim Bog (It
will eventually be online at www.saxzim.org ...and possibly as a printed work).
I remember birding the Bog in the early to mid 1980s and it was a different
place...and a different experience. We'd like to capture this history for
future generations of Bog birders.

We'd love to hear your amazing stories and fond memories about birding the
Sax-Zim Bog in the "early days" ...especially from the 1960s through early
2000s.
Some stories about birding during the Great Owl Irruption of 2004-2005 would be
welcome as well.

We would ESPECIALLY like photos (scans) of people birding the Bog (or photos of
landscapes/buildings) from years gone by. (Movies or video would be amazing)

The Bog was "discovered" in 1963 when a traveling preacher slammed on the
brakes after seeing a Northern Hawk Owl in June...Turns out there were at least
6... a family group!... and one of the first proofs that the Hawk Owl nested in
the Lower 48.

You can email scans to this email or [email protected]
You can mail items to FOSZB, PO Box 3585, Duluth, MN 55803

We will credit every story and photo!

Thank you in advance,
