I just saw three swans in flight near Cook in St. Louis county. They did not vocalize. They were flying over the Rice River near where I live. The river does not have much for open water yet except for small areas associated with rapids. This is the earliest I have seen them here. There is open water at Silver Lake in Virginia and the Pelican River just south of Orr has some open water, both sites that attract early migrating waterfowl. Wish I knew where they had come from and where they were heading. I am wondering if anyone has seen them in the above mentioned areas yet. I drove by the Pelican River last Friday but did not see any there at that time.
