Hi all,

I had a chance to get out birding this weekend and there was lots of
activity!

On Saturday, I made a loop around Swan Lake before the rain started. Here's
my list:

Song sparrow

Field sparrow

Pileated woodpecker

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Belted kingfisher

Northern flicker

Killdeer

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Mallard

American Kestrel

Great Egret

American White Pelican

Cooper's hawk

American Coot

Blue-winged teal

Ring-necked duck

Northern Harrier

Turkey vulture

On Saturday, I went through Lincoln and Watonwan WPAs. The best spot for
waterfowl was Watonwan WPA and a marshy area just north of CR 13. I viewed
this area from T-127, which comes off CR 30 and shoots southwest into CR
13. Lots of Blue and Green-winged Teal there along with Greater Yellowlegs.
I also had Great Horned Owlets vocalizing at Watonwan along with the only
gadwalls I had all weekend. I also got a good look at a Lark Sparrow at
Watonwan, which seems a little early for them. I heard something calling
that sounded suspiciously like a Towhee, but I didn't count it because I
wasn't sure. Here's my highlights for Blue Earth county:

American Coot

Greater Scaup

Lesser Scaup

Ring-necked duck

Northern Shoveler

Mallard

Blue-winged teal

Green-winged teal

Greater Yellowlegs

Killdeer

Yellow-headed blackbird

Eastern Meadowlark

Trumpeter Swan

Wood duck

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Gadwall

Great horned owl

Lark sparrow

Savanna sparrow

Belted Kingfisher

I also had Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Eastern Phoebe, and Yellow-rumped
Warblers in my backyard

Happy birding!

Aaron
