I should have noted that the bison will return to their summer home at Belwin on May 20th, along with a crowd of spectators. That might be a good day not to go birding in that area.

I was there to observe the kestrel nest box that Saint Paul Audubon and the Belwin Conservancy placed in the grassland on the north side of Division Street, across from the Bison prairie and the bison observation platform. Although kestrels have been hanging out in that area, the nest box is not occupied. At about 9:45, I re-found the mockingbird farther east, near the northeast corner of the bison prairie. I did not hear it sing.
