Shortly before 5:00 a.m. this morning I was awakened by the loud, unmistakable sound of a whip-poor-will. It had to be in a tree right outside our window, it called for about 5 minutes and then was silent. I just read on iBird that the record number of calls in a row by a single bird is 1,088!! This is only the second time in the many years that we have lived in this house in Roseville that I have heard a whip-poor-will. The first time was years ago in an evening after sunset and the bird called continuously for several hours.
