Yesterday we were sitting in the parking lot of the Cannon River trailway in Red Wing when we were surprised by an American Redstart who was continually "attacking" the side mirror of the car next to us. It was the first time we had seen this bird and were enthralled with its energetic antics and his beautiful color. We decided he was most likely defending his territory from the perceived threat of another male. But we were there for half an hour and he was still going strong when we left. Several times he came to our car as well but somehow it wasn't to his liking as much as the blue car next to us. Could there be another reason for his behavior? Every so often he would hop in a nearby tree but then return again to the mirror. If anyone would like to see video please contact me and I'll send it out. ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
