Several birds of note were seen between Duluth and Grand Marais today, and here's a brief summary. Please note that these birds were seen by various birders (not just me; about 40 of us in 2 main groups were involved):
- Red Phalarope at Black Beach in Lake Co; this location is well signed just NE of Silver Bay on the road that runs behind the AmericInn. - At least 3 Mountain Bluebirds at 2 places in Two Harbors: in the large open area just W of the Castle Danger Brewery, and in the park along First St by the apartment building. - 2 Pacific Loons in Taconite Harbor, Cook Co. - Townsend's Solitaire in Knife River, Lake Co., along the dead end road and RR tracks E of Emily's. - Other birds of note at various sites included: White-winged and Black scoters, Long-tailed Duck, White-rumped Sandpiper, Golden Eagle, both Long-eared and Short-eared owls, Black-backed Woodpecker, N Shrike, Bohemian Waxwing, Pine Grosbeak, Com Redpoll, both crossbills, W Meadowlark, Nashville Warbler, and others.
