One of the first signs of spring at our home is the calls of the pair of
Red-shouldered Hawks that have been nesting in the natural area behind our home
for 13 years, counting this year. They returned on Friday, which is pretty much
right on schedule. We're hoping they nest successfully again this year.

We were fortunate enough to have had a Great-horned Owl and Sharp-shinned Hawk
hunting our backyard most of the winter, and a Barred Owl last week. Now with
the RS Hawks returning, life will be quite dangerous for the small birds and
mammals in the vicinity!
