We have three small lakes in drawdown in eastern Kandiyohi County. The
three lakes (Wheeler, Schultz, and Hubbard) are on the east side of
Diamond Lake and feed into Diamond. Pat Wheeler, a descendant of Wheeler
Lake's namesake, told me today that there is a lot of exposed mud and he is
seeing a lot of shorebirds and birds he normally never sees. I did not get
out there this afternoon to check it out (had to divert to Cottonwood). Now
that Garrett has us all fired up over shorebirds and drunk on Curlew
Sandpiper excitement, maybe someone else will dig up something
extraordinary in this Kandi spot.

And in case you missed it, Garrett is leading an MOU shorebirds trip based
out of Cottonwood this weekend. He found the Curlew Sandpiper just to drum
up participants for his trip. Garrett's advertising skills are rivaled only
by his birding skills. Don't miss out on this opportunity!
