Today there was a Black-backed Woodpecker and an Olive-sided Flycatcher (both probably nesting nearby) along the Fire Tower Trail in Scenic State Park. The location is where the trail forks to turn northeast toward the Fire Tower, about 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot. This area was hit hard during the 2016 wind storm and there are numerous damaged trees for woodpeckers. On the way to this spot, there was a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher singing in the bog about a half mile from the parking lot. I did not see Spruce Grouse or hear Connecticut Warbler, but both species are normally present along this stretch of trail. I suspect I missed them because it was nearly noon. Shawn Conrad
