Yesterday, the MOU Records Committee met. Among the topics discussed was the
status of
Whooping Crane in Minnesota. More specifically, there was discussion about the
status of
the Experimental Eastern Population (Wisconsin Population). After discussion,
the
Committee unanimously agreed, with all ten members voting, that the Eastern
Population of
Whooping Cranes did not yet represent a sustainable population in the wild.
Consequently,
birds originating from the Eastern Population will not be accepted into the
records and
archives of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union at the present time. The
Committee will
continue to monitor the situation and will review it periodically as the
situation warrants.

The status of the Gulf Coastal (or Aransas Population) was not affected by this
decision.

Tom Tustison,
Chairman MOU Records Committee
