Today at the opulent Stivland ranch and gourmet bird buffet here in Plymouth - bird irruption. My wife thinks the birds are celebrating Thanksgiving, this is PLYMOUTH, after all. The star of the show was - finally, our own personal Red-breasted Nuthatch after we finally put out some peanuts - duh! Joining in the feast - feeding frenzy of a couple dozen Pine Siskins. One was at the feeder yesterday - he must have been the advance scouting party. Also - two Mallards eating finch food on the patio - there is no open water on the pond so these guys must have an inside track. Still hanging around and joining in - One Fox Sparrow, two White-throated Sparrows. The regulars - Chickadees, 2 White-breasted Nuthatches, 3 pairs of Cardinals, two Blue Jays, a couple dozen Goldfinches, A few House Finches, one House Sparrow, lots of Juncos, a dozen Robins between the ranch and my neighbors crab-apple tree, two Mourning Doves, one Downy Woodpecker, and three unwelcome Starlings (but they add to the list so they are OK today). If our resident, but infrequent visitor, the Wild Turkey shows up, I guess that would confirm she must be right - again.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, Sid Stivland Plymouth, MN ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
