Female-plumaged bird found in shipping channel in Canal Park 15 minutes ago. Looked like female Greater Scaup with horizontal inch-long tuft at hindcrown. First thought tuft was set of disheveled crown feathers but didn’t appear so the more I watched it for ten minutes. But had no scope or camera with me and ship went through and flushed everything. 100-plus goldeneye also there but this duck mostly outside the flock. Don’t know which way it flew. Will update if bird is relocated with a positive ID. -Kim Eckert, Duluth
