(Posted by Andrew D. Smith <[email protected]> via moumn.org) Back near the end of November, Mike Majeski reported seeing 2 Common Ravens while doing work in Miesville Ravine Park Reserve. He subsequently submitted documentation for this important observation, establishing the 1st County Record for this long anticipated species. Over the course of the last few days, 3 additional observers reported this species to eBird in this same park, although this was not shared here on MOUnet or Facebook. This morning at 8:50, I had the pleasure of observing one of the 2 previously reported birds flying from the Goodhue side of the park into Dakota County. Other observers have apparently seen 2 birds early this afternoon, also in flight. I had tried a couple days ago, joined by Bill Litkey and Gary Reitan. I was in the same area where was today for approximately 4 hours, but had no luck. So, some patience and luck are required. The location is the parking lot areas where 280th St winds down a hill and joins Orlando Avenue. A parking lot is on each side of the road. I chose the one with the power lines going through it, but think either is probably an okay viewing location. The county boundary here is somewhat confusing, as its an arbitrary line in the dirt. I believe it fairly accurately follows the track of the power line stacks, with Dakota on one side, and Goodhue on the other. The river is NOT the boundary. Good luck to any chasers.
