The western cells of North Ottawa Impoundment are currently providing extensive mudflats and shallow water, attracting thousands of shorebirds. The majority of birds this morning appear to be Pectoral and Least Sandpipers and Lesser Yellowlegs, with lesser numbers of Greater Yellowlegs, Semipalmated, Baird’s, and Stilt Sandpipers mixed in. Also present among the hoard are Short-billed Dowitchers, Wilson’s Phalaropes, Semipalmated Plovers, and a pair of American Avocets as well as hundreds of Franklin’s Gulls.
