Of note, a Prairie Falcon was observed last evening and this morning at the
North Ottawa Impoundment in Grant County. We observed it on a branch out on the
now drier mudflats of the NW Cell "C" near the loafing Pelicans. It flew over
them and landed again. Repositioning ourselves for a closer look, it lifted
and flew WNW into Traverse County at the quickly descending sunset light. We
noted the long malar stripe, pale bark-brown plumage and soft breast flecking,
large Peregrine-like size, no underside was able to be seen from the low
profile flight. This morning others observed its return, and especially the
photo by Frank Fabbro of the perched bird in the famous tree snag between the
SW-NW cells, and with a full crop bulge to boot, and underside flight. The
greater numbers of shorebirds were in the remaining wetspots out on the eastern
edge of the SW cell near the perch tree. If you go, that'd be one angle to
keep in mind. mjb, dorr, rae
