This isn’t a casual/accidental rarity (which are the kinds of species my posts center around), but it is an impressive late date.
A photo of an Upland Sandpiper was posted to Minnesota Birding on Facebook. The photographer observed it on October 13 at Kasota Prairie (sadly, soon to be the former prairie, if I’m not mistaken) in Le Seur County. Compare October 13 to the specie’s median fall departure date of August 24. There are three mid-October records of Upland Sandpiper ever recorded in Minnesota (and none later). This individual would make it the fourth. Hopefully this bird will make it to central/southern South America for the winter!
