Ani sp. at Park Point by Sky Harbor Airport! Sue Barton and I just had brief
looks
at an unmistakable bird. We had just started to pull out of the parking lot at
the
end of Park Point adjacent to the airport. A black bird with a huge bill and
long
tail flew across the road and continued south east. It’s flight was weak and
fluttery. The tail was held at a downward angle in-flight as if it was attached
by a
hinge to the rump. The tail and itself was long and rounded in shape. Size of
the
bird was smaller than a crow but clearly larger than a grosbeak. Conditions
were
overcast with offshore northeast winds 5 to 10. We were looking northwest to
north as the bird flew across the road, went over the shrubs and continued
Southeast. Thus far the bird has not been refound.
