Last night, a well-described (and apparently vocalizing) Phainopepla sighting was shared on a Minnesota birding Facebook page. This was adjacent to Sorbo Park in Mound. Vicky Seymour observed the bird briefly at 1pm yesterday, but despite many of us (30?) searching for 3 hours this morning, we came up empty handed. If anyone relocates the bird, please post here. If accepted, this would mark Minnesota’s first confirmed sighting of Phainopepla.
White-winged and possible Red Crossbills, plus Common Redpoll, American Goldfinch, Purple Finch, and House Finch, made for a speciose morning as far as finches are concerned! Thanks and good birding!
