We have them year-round in Afton, they nest on our property. On a fun note, the young ones are some of the friendliest fledgling birds I've ever seen. Readily perch on me if I'm filling feeders. I've had to literally brush them off our suet logs so I can refill the logs. Lasts about a week, lol, but it sure is fun.
In chatting with others it seems they are fairly common in the summer w a definite uptick in winter. - Tami in Afton ________________________________ From: Minnesota Birds <[email protected]> on behalf of Michael Blissenbach <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2021 9:36:42 AM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [mou-net] Red-breasted Nuthatches in the metro area Hey Tom, They are regular visitors in the winter months, at least in the Hastings area in Dakota County. -Michael Sent from my iPhone > On Oct 23, 2021, at 9:34 AM, MOU <[email protected]> wrote: > > (Posted by Tom Gilde <[email protected]> via > https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__moumn.org&d=DwIFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=5gIOkmnQ1nLB2gWkMnpF7Q&m=7x89_wyWYZsF8ID2QU39UM30Nuf6DREi1GGvWH-OX1w&s=YfSWRP9_XM5hdhKHNTDLz-3Ol4NglBCPh75AcztpTII&e=) > > Have Red-breasted Nuthatch sightings become pretty routine in the Twin Cities? > I ask because we just enjoyed watching one at our feeder a few minutes ago. > > ---- > Join or Leave mou-net: > https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__lists.umn.edu_cgi-2Dbin_wa-3FSUBED1-3Dmou-2Dnet&d=DwIFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=5gIOkmnQ1nLB2gWkMnpF7Q&m=7x89_wyWYZsF8ID2QU39UM30Nuf6DREi1GGvWH-OX1w&s=e3FQS77Q0m1K01SQUz8rCAIm_QgiTxX5IDczBVSjXCg&e= > Archives: > https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__lists.umn.edu_archives_mou-2Dnet.html&d=DwIFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=5gIOkmnQ1nLB2gWkMnpF7Q&m=7x89_wyWYZsF8ID2QU39UM30Nuf6DREi1GGvWH-OX1w&s=6sHEzRw5gBsZL2dJ84dLLSwlOnuJaBLat2shodKB7eI&e= > > During the pandemic, the MOU encourages you to stay safe, practice social > distancing, and continue to bird responsibly. ---- Join or Leave mou-net: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__lists.umn.edu_cgi-2Dbin_wa-3FSUBED1-3Dmou-2Dnet&d=DwIFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=5gIOkmnQ1nLB2gWkMnpF7Q&m=7x89_wyWYZsF8ID2QU39UM30Nuf6DREi1GGvWH-OX1w&s=e3FQS77Q0m1K01SQUz8rCAIm_QgiTxX5IDczBVSjXCg&e= Archives: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__lists.umn.edu_archives_mou-2Dnet.html&d=DwIFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=5gIOkmnQ1nLB2gWkMnpF7Q&m=7x89_wyWYZsF8ID2QU39UM30Nuf6DREi1GGvWH-OX1w&s=6sHEzRw5gBsZL2dJ84dLLSwlOnuJaBLat2shodKB7eI&e= During the pandemic, the MOU encourages you to stay safe, practice social distancing, and continue to bird responsibly. ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html During the pandemic, the MOU encourages you to stay safe, practice social distancing, and continue to bird responsibly.
