Occasionally I stop home for lunch, especially this time of year, and today I was very glad I did so. For the first time in over 20 years we had a beautiful Red-headed WP in our backyard. Twice it attempted to come into our feeders, and both times it was chased away by Blue Jays and Crows. Hopefully it sticks around for a while. What a wonderful lunch treat, combined with the Orioles, Grosbeaks, and Buntings in the yard; while a loudly vocalizing Red-shouldered Hawk hunted the nature area our yard backs up to.
I've noticed several reports of RHWP this spring in the metro area. It would be wonderful to think this could be part of an expanding population?
