This Sunday, June 5th, I will lead the MRVAC Dakota County Prairie Birds
field trip. Meet at Schaar's Bluff picnic area at 7 am. After a short hike,
we will drive to various wetland and prairie locations to search for
grassland and other prairie species. Some locations are quite unbirded.
Target species include Orchard Oriole, Bell's Vireo, Loggerhead Shrike,
Grasshopper and Henslow's Sparrows, Sedge and Marsh Wrens, Sandhill
Cranes, Brewer's Blackbird, Dickcissel, Bobolink, Red-headed Woodpecker,
Yellow-headed Blackbird, and both meadowlarks. Besides a few short, level
hikes, birding will mostly be from the side of the road. Bring lunch if you
want to stay for the afternoon's birds. The field trip is free and open to
all, although donations to MRVAC are accepted. No reservations needed or
expected.
