It never, ever, occurred to me that Black Guillemots would nest in habitat like that! I knew, of course, that Polar Bears are continually exploring new food sources, but for the female with cubs it seems that the whelping Ringed Seal is essential, and that requires sea ice. Birds and eggs just don't have enough fat. Male bears can overcome large prey, even Belugas and Walrus and mature Bearded Seals, but for females and cubs, unless they come across a bonanza such as a beached whale, it is far more difficult to attain the required fat content.
