I was going for a trifecta this morning trying to locate all three Snowy Owls previously reported in Dodge Co. Two out of three isn't bad.
At 7:15 I found the male nearly on the same utility pole as the original sighting (1/3 mile east of CR 3 on 710th St.). It flew south and landed on a post in the field for several minutes. Chased by some crows it then flew east (over my house) and ended up on a pole on 150th Ave. south of 710th. I then looked for the other adult (female?) at last night's location and found that one in nearly the same place (west of 100th Ave. on 700th St.). It flew off north into an area with no road access. This bird has tawny barring on the back and wings, a barred chest and some black on its crown. I have some photos for anyone interested in seeing them. Contact me off the MOU list. Does anyone have an opinion about the possibility that these three birds may constitute a family unit?
