This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 16th, 2016 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The EURASIAN TREE SPARROW in downtown Two Harbors was seen as recently
as the 13th and is probably still present. It moves around throughout
the day with a flock of House Sparrows, and is seen mainly along
Waterfront Drive especially in the alley behind the library at 4th
Avenue, at the post office at 1st Avenue, and at the ground feeder at
South Avenue between the Do North pizzeria and the black historic
locomotive.

The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at 44th Avenue East and Regent Street in east
Duluth was still present as of the 15th. Birders are welcome to look for
the bird but he asks observers to stay on the sidewalk and not venture
into his yard.

Kim Eckert saw a LONG-TAILED DUCK at Canal Park in Duluth on the 15th.
THAYER'S GULLS, ICELAND GULL, BLACK-BACKED GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL
continue to be reported from Canal Park. Peder Svingen saw a
late-lingering GREATER SCAUP on the 13th at 13th Street on Park Point.

Jan and Larry Kraemer saw a very late LINCOLN'S SPARROW at Stoney Point
on the 13th, but it has not been relocated.

John Richardson reports that a VARIED THRUSH was seen in Grand Marais on
the 15th on 3rd Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street. Bill Tefft saw a
flock of more than 200 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS on the 14th in Ely, in the
neighborhood of East 2nd Street and Boundary Street.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on or about Friday,
December 23rd.
