Stewart, you need to install base-devel, tk, tcl, gmp, gbdm and emacs.
I am asumming you are on a 32 bit environment. There is an AUR package
at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=14647 which builds the
stable version. You could use it to see how to compile the Git
version. There is a patch needed available at
http://pastebin.com/T0ypjpJN
