Not too long ago, there was a brief discussion of using Finite Sets to solve Sudoku. Even though the discussion suggested that the solution may be less efficient (both in terms of the amount of code that had to be written and the amount of processing time required), I thought that the idea was a nice one. I suggested it as an optional exercise in my course.
Five students took me up on the challenge. I'm very pleased that those who did had learned enough about Oz to be able to read the FS tutorial on their own and to write the program.
For those who are interested, here is the assignment followed by the results: http://cs.calstatela.edu/~wiki/index.php/Courses/CS_460/Fall_2005/Homework#Sudoku_using_Finite_Sets
