Are you sure that these problems occur when the key3.db and secmod.db files are deleted? If I run into an error with Netscape it is mostly due to the fact that these files have been corrupted. If you delete them and restart Netscape (mind the quickstarter) these files will be recreated with their orriginal values. Once in a while I delete these files and reinsert the necesary modules, certificates and keys. Note that I too had problems signing .jar files (with a PKCS#11 module, this is probably not your problem) and I got around it by taking the long route. The - very - long route :). Not recommended.
