First - upgrade to iPlaner 4.12 (4.11 is buggy). Second - assuming that you are using certificates on your server, verify that the directory containing your certs has full access to everyone (i.e. chmod 777 /usr/netscape/server4/alias). Strangely, this should be the case, as these are public keys, yet iPlanet does not set this up like this automatically. If this is not changed to "777", and "NT Synchronization over SSL" is configured on your Directory Server, then the Directory Server will not start.
