I've exactly the same problem for using it:
+ just after having installed iplanet Directory 5.0 (without any pb), I can
lauch the admin server and the console
+ then after a short time I can neither close nor restart the slpad daemon
(a message say that the daemon is not running and the pid is not found): and
trying to launch it whith start has no effect.
+ even rebooting or reinstalling do not change anything.
