I need to develop an application which stores configuration information
in an LDAP directory (customer requirement); such information would include
things like server name, owning department, network status and so on.

Can some one point me in a good direction to go to find out about this
stuff?  (eg do I need to build a schema or can I use existing stuff).

All the FAQs and examples I've seen all seem to be oriented around people
directories (departments, internet, whatever) which doesn't fit in with
what I need (one area for server config, one area for users allowed to
access data, one area for program tuning information and so on).

Any help much appreciated!
