SURELY inetOrgPerson is good enough? If not, why not?

Please can someone explain to me why mozilla feels the need, along with
every other project, to propose its own ldap schema? I thought the whole
bloody point was that it was interoperable. If everyone does their own
thing, the value is lost, like microsoft's xml office.
