... but has anyone done a .NET port? If not, I would like to volunteer my services.
The
situation is this: the .NET base class library only provides LDAP support in the
context of
interacting with Active Directory (go figure), and the performance and design of their
directory-services package leave much to be desired anyway. I think that anything
that can be
done to free .NET from a Windows-only implementation is good for us programmers, and
good for the
world in general.

I've downloaded the latest version of the Java API for a project recently, and I don't
think it
would take long to do a correct port to .NET. By "correct" I don't mean filtering it
through
Microsoft's grotty import tools and hoping for the best, but manually reviewing the
whole codebase
during the port to make sure it takes advantage of C# and .NET features to get the best
performance. I'd faithfully reproduce the whole API, with the exception of minor
changes to
follow C# naming standards.

In the past I've mostly worked with the BSD license, but of course I'm willing to work
with your
licensing terms or I wouldn't be volunteering. I'd like to host the project here, in
the proper
place, instead of somewhere else like SourceForge. Thanks a lot for providing the
world's best
LDAP package, and thanks for your attention.
