Are image formats a similar issue? It would be useful to support N3 and others that can't do PNG, by converting to GIF. I assume SVG would be the best format for diagrams (diagrams being mostly vector primitives) but as compatible browsers are few and far we could convert to PNG or GIF. Nautilus ( http://nautilus.eazel.com/ ) has a converter from SVG to PNG ( http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngapcv.html ).
