I just checked in the build stuff for the <a
href="http://www.mozilla.org/projects/help-viewer">Mozilla Help
viewer</a>, so it ought to be available in the builds tomorrow a.m
(pending tinderbox love and acceptance), and in the src if you configure
with "--with-extensions." Note that right now, the Netscape 6 welcome
page appears as the home page, but the stuff is in the mozilla src so
that the content can be adapted, stolen, thrown away, or whatever. It's
very easy to add new docs. The RDF file help-toc.rdf in
mozilla/extensions/help/resources/locale/en-US contains the table of
contents.

If you have any questions or want to get some new docs in there, let me
know. I have a general bug for the Help system at
bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67376 and a build-related bug at
bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74132. There are sure to be new
bugs, a few glitches, and, I hope, some feature development: good
searching, some UI cleanup, ?

Note that this help window supports context-sensitivity in the way
I describe in the <a
href="http://www.mozilla.org/projects/help-viewer/cshelp_specification.html">context
sensitive help spec</a>, so that help buttons in tricky places in the UI
(e.g., the Preferences panel) can load particular content.

Also, Peter "jag" Annema has created a <help_browser /> widget for use
in place of the <browser /> I am using currently in there. In addition
to the simple navigation functionality, this browser one-off supports
tooltips on the loaded content, so help documents in here can take
advantage of this as well. He may also have other things in mind for
this widget. Not sure.

I think there is a Help component in bugzilla under which bugs on this
can be filed.
Thanks
Ian Oeschger
