The first thing that strikes me is that the user may not appreciate that
mozilla is open source and might not realise why there are these pleas
for help.
<snip>Start by reading the release notes.</snip> I know its unrealistic
but maybe we could assume they read the relase notes before/during the
download :-)
The Report Bugs section is already 2 paragraphs too long IMHO. An
additional sentence at the end of the first paragraph to the effect of:
If you find something that you think is a bug please help us produce a
better browser by following the bug submission procedures <here>
As you might have already guessed I'm going to suggest that the QA
section is too large and detailed. I would prefer to see something
explaining why QA is good and then linking to the BugAThon and another
get-involved-in-qa page.
Again I feel that the Fix Bugs paragraph has the wrong focus. What
imagine there is a brief explanation of the fact that you can and are
encouraged to contribute and that xpfe allows not just c++ gurus to
help. And again a link to further information.
I like the docs and community bits. short and to the point
OK, I hope I haven't offended anyone (Gerv) there.
As for things to be added, I would really like to see stuff showing off
mozilla's power, prime exaples of which are the dom examples which are
VERY cool but are hidden in the maze of the current mozilla.org
Finally, I assume that this is for the startup.homepage_override_url
pref. If so, this only shows up when a new milestone is run for the
first time. So in order for people to get back to this wonderful page
that is going to exist there probably needs to be a link to it in the
personal toolbar. This page is therefore a place where 99.99999%(ish)
will be using mozilla and somewhere we don't need to worry about 4xp
issues so maximum use needs to be made of this
Just my personal feelings. I do think this is a good idea and hope it
can become something that recruits loads more supporters, QAers, coders etc.
