She remembers the painful struggles she faced when she was young, and has a heart for that age group. Her writing encourages girls to continue to live for Jesus, despite the heartaches and struggles of growing up. I had the opportunity to talk to Sandra about her new books and her desire to reach 8- to 12-year-old girls. Click on the link below to read the interview: http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/sbinterview.html?p=1012097 Her first series, "Secret Sisters," has engaged many young readers. http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/secsis.html?p=1012097 Now, Sandra is working on two new series that your girls will love! "The Hidden Diary" is a fictional series about two girls spending the summer on a small island off the cost of California. They find a hidden diary written by two girls who spent a summer on the island in the 1930's. As they try to imitate what the girls from the past did, Lucy and Serena become close friends. There are currently four books in this series, and two more will be out early this summer. http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/hiddendiary.html?p=1012097 Sandra is also working on a non-fiction series. The "Girls Like You," series is a great resource to help girls accept themselves for who they are. Sandra received many questions on all kinds of topics at her website from 8- to 12-year-old girls, and compiled them into the first book, "Girl Talk: 61 Questions From Girls Like You." http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/girltalk.html?p=1012097 The second book, "The Inside Out Beauty Book," will be released early this summer. http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/beauty.html?p=1012097 Stay tuned to these Newsletters to find out when these books are available. ***************************************************************************** BOOK SPOTLIGHT I just finished reading a novel that captured my attention with its engaging characters and storyline. "Theo," by Barbara Harrison, is recommended for ages 10 to 14, and it deals with some pretty heavy topics. It takes place in Greece, during the Nazi occupation, and follows the story of an orphaned ten-year-old, Theo. He lives in Athens, but when the Nazis decree that all orphans be sent to Germany to work, he travels across the harsh countryside to a small village where some friends of his family, Patir Alex and his wife, work for the resistance. The one thing Theo finds comfort in is his shadow puppet named Karagiozis, a famous, beloved character in Greek puppet theater. Theo had been an assistant to a great puppet- master in Athens, and Karagiozis is his only link to his life before the war. This book is not a light story, but that's what I liked about it. Barbara Harrison paints the harshness of life under Nazi rule and the poverty of the people very well. Yet the picture is not one of complete hopelessness. She also captures for the reader a wonderful sense of Greek culture, opening the mind to a very different way of life. I think this story will encourage your kids to think about the many blessings they enjoy as they see life through the eyes of someone who has suffered many hardships. http://www.christianbook.com/html/static/theo.html?p=1012097 ***************************************************************************** I hope you have enjoyed this look at some different kids products we carry at Christianbook.com.
