Young crusader? Wow! Thanks for the flattery. I'm 50 this year. What I meant was that there is a lot of irrelevant tags in DocBook. E.g. manpage markup, Object methods and fields (o.k. for developer documents), Pob (postoffice box?), Postcode? <dedication>I would like to thank my mother and Tim Berners Lee who made this all possible</dedication> The list is endless.
On second thoughts, you could be right. There is an awful lot of cruft in DocBook. It might be better to design an xml dialect specifically for help documentation. One possibility is to use xlink to divorce basic content from index, glossary and toc entries. This has the advantage that the indexer and the content provider do not have to be the same person or contend for the same document. Perhaps the toc need a rethink too. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnexxml/html/xml04152002.asp?frame=true for some thoughts on this.
