Hi,
I am using redhat 7.2 with self compiled rpms mozilla 1.2b
When installing the java-plugin in either the
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.2b/plugins or the ~/.mozilla/plugins directory, the
browser crashes without any further comments as soon as I go on a site
with a java applet.
I tried three (!) different version of suns JRE (1.31,1.40,1.41). It
didn't help....
The solution was: Trying thousand of hundreds of ways of installing the
plugin...
It works now. I had to make a softlink to the
/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin.so.... instead
of copying this file to the plugin directory (as recommended in the
install instrutions)... Maybe this is the correct way to install the
plugin, maybe I caused something completely different by trying dozens
of ways to install the plugin...
Mozilla is great !!! It has several features that makes it different,
but for users who cannot care for technical purposes (for example in
bureaus) it is not very productive, if it is that sensible to such
installation details.... Most of the users wouldn't even realize, that
the java plugin causes the crash, most of them even don't know, what a
java plugin is
I had this problem with several earlier versions of mozilla, too
