Documentation E-Mail Client softwarearchitecture

Standing at the beginning of a software developement project, we (6 
students from the university of Essen) may prepare a documentation of 
the softwarearchitecture of Mozilla's Webbrowser (especially the 
e-mail-client).

On mozilla.org we only find descriptions of functionality and the source 
code itself is quite hard to deal with to get a start. Does anybody have 
an idea, where we could find an analysis dealing with this topic, we 
might use as a basic document for our work
