I'm getting the sense that a lot of our confusion on DOMRef is we don't know whether it's frozen or not. There are lots of bugs against DOMRef, but we don't know if it's okay to fix them or not.
Well, why don't we just fork?
Or, why don't you contact Fabien, the original author, and ask him what the status is? He's definitely still around, as far as I know.
