We are actively working on editor embedding issues. Our main
thrust now is to make it possible to embed the editor in
a native application (in the same way that you can embed
the browser using our embedding APIs).
Future plans include the ability to have an HTML editor
embedding in web content (a rich text <textarea>-type
widget), but this is not one of our initial goals.
You can find out more about editor embedding issues at
<http://www.mozilla.org/editor/editor-embedding.html>
Although this work has been stalled for several months now,
we are once again working actively on it.
