Have you tried unselecting the reformat option in the preferences?
It still does it (Mac, Mozilla 1.1).
It just seems to get rid of tags it doesn't understand (eg php stuff).
Also, it would be great if Open File dialog in Mac showed all text files (not just html ones)..
